Incredible way to start the championship!
Tremendous weekend for the team, despite sanctions and failures, and the final results not reflecting it, we know we are there.
After a very complicated Friday where it rained during all the sessions, Saturday was quite productive in terms of feelings with the cars.
There was one exception, and that was that in Daniel Briz's kart we had problems that we didn't know where they resided. The driver complained that the kart had too much grip, which did not allow the kart to turn and be able to accelerate quickly.
But we no longer had any more elements in our hands to make the kart release its rear end. After about 1 hour thinking about what we could do, a “happy idea” gave us the key: change the chassis.
This chassis was completely new, and we couldn't get it to give in those first stints, so we took last year's chassis, which we knew worked.
With all this, we presented ourselves on Sunday in a Warm Up with a wet track, but already dry. And yes, the change worked. We finished the session with the 3 fast drivers up there.
We put the final touches to the setup, and went out to Q, where we were P1-P2 and P6 the ENTIRE session, but on the last lap they took away our pole.
A mistake of our own (when changing the chassis we had to change the radiator, and it weighed a little less), which caused a DQ for not reaching the minimum weight (-150g), so we finally started in last position with Daniel Briz.
In Race 1 there were several important things: first the IMPRESSIVE race of Alberto Hurtado, who took the victory in a three-way fight with Mustienes and Hansen, although at the end of the race we received a 5s penalty for having a fallen front pontoon and another 6s.
Due to contacts with the other two cars with which he was fighting for victory (in my opinion, racing incidents).
Henry Mercier's race, which he had from the start (due to a sudden braking in the launch) with the pontoon fallen, with what it means for the front load (also a 5s penalty). And of course, the INCREDIBLE comeback of Daniel Briz, who starting last managed to reach P7 (+23 positions).
In the second race, we had absolutely everything. There was a moment when we managed to get P1, P2 and P4; But, first a touch from Mercier with another driver who was sending him behind, and then a kind of brake test on Hurtado (he dropped the pontoon) caused that, despite finishing P2, P3 and P15, the final result was different.
As I say, VERY GOOD taste in the mouth, knowing that we are about to enter with three drivers among the top 5-7.
In the end, we use this Valencian championship as a “test” (knowing that it is a championship and we always want to win) for the important things.
Now, our sights set on the CEK - Next stop: Campillos
I would also like to thank and congratulate my colleague Josep Luis Marí Moreno for his work all weekend
